Why must we start every New Year with “resolutions”?

This year started and it felt stale. I believe it arrived too early. It felt as if I wasn’t ready to go through the motions and start setting “resolutions” again, going into another year.

Why do we continue to put pressure on ourselves by setting unrealistic “resolutions” about things we want? I think we should start manifesting what we need from within. What would it look like to build a vision board with what we want to feel, manifest, and affirm within ourselves?

I love vision boards and creating ideas, and I have also been very successful in those intentions actually coming to fruition.  I claim what I want and visualize it every single day.

My Digital Vision Board 2022

I truly love the feeling of a fresh start and a way to essentially “reset the clock”. The New Year always comes with the typical: better health, more money, and time for “self-care” – however you define that. After January passes these goals tend to get left behind as we transition back into the everyday life and repetitive motions that we go through. We return to the tunnel vision that we had at the end of the year, more like survival mode. We look forward to holidays because they are breaks from our everyday schedules – they are already packed and accounted for. Most individuals see each holiday come and go and then immediately get “back on track”.

The pandemic was a blessing and a curse. It was a blessing for me because I was forced to pause. I was forced to reevaluate how my family was functioning as a unit and what we really needed to do better. I was forced to take a step back and become more humble. I realized rather quickly how much we can easily take for granted. Yes – I know, it has also been labeled as a curse as well; it has caused much divide and trauma for many people. If you are wondering where I stand on the issue, come back another time – I am choosing to love over hate and give grace over judgment. It is just not my place. I will be a safe person for people to talk to and not judge them for the decisions they make for themselves.

However, no matter which way you flip it – for almost 2 years – we have been living life “halfway”.  I think we should manifest solutions to the things we want to see change the most. I believe that is how we achieve sustainability, which is quite frankly how we want to see these “resolutions” pan out right?

Instead of reaching for shiny stickers, fancy pens (which I will soon don’t worry), and loads of organizational tools; I decided to invest in myself and what my soul wanted. I have been doing this wrong all along. I have been telling myself I HAD to accomplish things every year, those pesky “resolutions”. This year, I have chosen to shift my focus and expectations. I intend to give myself grace and listen to what my body needs in order to reach my set goals. Beginning with my mind, I will start with healing – then give myself permission to be present and unapologetically.

After January 10, for some reason I felt as if the New Year had finally arrived. I welcomed it and now feel ready for what lies ahead.

Am I prepared? Likely not.

Have I done everything that I can do to be ready for what is coming? Who knows.

However, this time around – this year – I will go in as myself, without expectations, open to possibilities, and ready to kick some good old ass in life. It is time to start living again.

Come with me. ♥️
